With multiple generations in the workplace comes multiple stereotypes. Older generations may face ageism, being out of touch, lacking tech ingenuity and being stuck in the status quo. The newest members of the workforce have skeptics who are concerned about their work ethic, time they spend on their mobile phone and the desire to work remotely.

August 9, 630 Networking, 7 pm meeting, August Hillsdale Career Networking Group meeting will be our annual Executive Panel Discussion. For those of you who are new to our group, this is a very special meeting. Every August, Janelle invites several of her executive clients to join us to answer questions from our members about the job market, their hiring processes or anything else that you might find helpful to better understand how companies find, evaluate and hire their new employees. It has always been our most popular and well-attended meeting, drawing over 160 people last time we did one in person, back in 2019. The pandemic forced us to do this meeting on Zoom for the last three years, but we are THRILLED to bring it back as an in-person meeting this year. The date will be Wednesday, August 9 in the St. John’s Parish Center.
This year’s format will be the same as in previous years. Instead of our normal presentations, our ‘C’ level executives will take questions that you, the members of our community, have submitted in advance about any and all aspects of the recruiting process. I will organize the questions that you submit into logical categories, and we will pose them to our guest panelists at the meeting. I promise you that it will be a lively, informative and frank discussion that you will want to be part of. But none of this works unless you supply us with questions to ask, and the time to start sending those question is NOW!!!
Let us know what’s bothering you most about the job search process. Do you have any questions about resumes or interviews? Are you worried about the future of working remotely? Or scared to death about how Artificial Intelligence might affect your candidacy? Any question on any topic related to the job search is fair game. The primary value of a meeting like this is that the executives will address issues that are on YOUR minds. Feel free to ask ANYTHING about ANYTHING that bothers you. Multiple questions are fine; the more, the better, as long as everyone realizes that time may not allow us to get to every question we receive.
As a courtesy to our guest panelists, we distribute the questions to them a few days ahead of the meeting to give them time to consider their answers and to research any specific data points that might be relevant. So, in order to give me time to get everything organized and send them out to our panelists, please send me your questions NO LATER THAN MONDAY, July 31.
If anyone has any questions, either about this meeting or for our executives, please let me know. We appreciate the way you have all stepped up every year with the most amazing and insightful questions, and I’m sure you recognize that the quality of the meeting depends on them. So thanks in advance to everyone for thinking about this and sending questions about any part of the hiring process that might be on your mind. I look forward to hearing from you.

The Ramsey Job Search Work Team meets every Monday morning. Networking and meeting starts at 9:00 to 10:30. Members are expected to hold each other accountable at weekly (virtual) meetings for conducting a job search in earnest. Historically, the team has enjoyed a very high rate of “landings” by those conducting an active and vigorous job search.
Based on the Lee-Hecht-Harrison model, it’s more of a project management team made up of people committed to helping each other in the job search. By attending regularly and staying focused on key tasks, meetings serve as an advisory panel that knows you and your search and can offer answers to the questions that come up in job hunting.
Help others to help you (especially for the first few meetings) by having a prepared “elevator pitch” to introduce yourself. Jobs open up because there’s a problem to solve or a need to fill.
Please contact Beth Berkenfeld at bberk2@optonline.net or 201-797-4342 if interested in joining the group.
