The onsite network meetings start at 5:30 pm. Networking is from 5:30-6:15pm with a speaker presentation from 6:15pm to 7:30, then networking until 8 pm.

First, employers introduced Applicant Tracking Systems to sort and filter candidates based on the text of their resumes. Now, companies are moving further into automation with something called AVI… Ring in the New Year with Middlesex County Office of Career Opportunity’s (MCOCO) first workshop of 2023, “The Robot Is Ready to Interview You Now,” with Alex Freund and learn how to conquer this new type of “interview”!

 As a jobseeker, your first “interview” might be with a bot – an automated script or program – that uses algorithms and commands to filter out candidates who don’t tick the right boxes, elevating only a successful few for real, human evaluation. This new technology is called asynchronous video interview (AVI) and it uses artificial intelligence (AI) to sift through applicants’ pre-recorded videos, scanning for key words and behaviors to narrow down the pool of candidates – even ranking people by how well they meet criteria. While AVI may save employers time and resources, it raises a high hurdle in front of applicants.

During the presentation, you will:

  •         Learn how to manage the technical aspects of video communication, such as lighting: background, camera angle, and clear audio
  •     Find out what’s important when interviewing with a machine
  •     Get tips for improving your current performance

Topics will include medical Insurance through the Affordable Care Act, strategies to take advantage of shifting marginal tax rates during a transition including impact of new tax laws, and advantages/disadvantages of 401k/403b rollovers.

Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties is offering a Job Seekers Success Group for active job seekers who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change.  This meeting will be held via Zoom. The topic for this session is “Creating a Target Market for your Job Search” presented by Paul Cecala, Chief Career Navigator. “Where do you want to work?” One of the most common questions asked of job seekers. This workshop will look at why to define your targets and then how to methodically use them to network in conducting your job search. By the end of the workshop, you should have the beginnings of your target job search market chart created.

This group is offered free of charge and are open to the entire community.  Funding for this program is provided by grants from The Arnold A.
